Match your bait to the fishing session

Reliable bait makes trip planning easier, especially when you're targeting a particular species or need something that travels well. We stock fresh and frozen sea fishing bait throughout the year, including squid, sand eels, frozen mackerel, cuttlefish, sprats and black lugworm. Fresh bait can suit a session planned for the same day, while frozen choices are practical to store and carry as a backup. The right option depends on your target species, the conditions and how long the bait must remain usable. At our Dungeness shop, you can also check local catch reports and tide information before setting out.

Reserve fresh bait before leaving home

Squid bait currently costs £5 for a 1 lb box, while frozen mackerel bait is £1 each. Calling before your trip lets us confirm stock and put aside the type and amount you need. Dungeness Angling Club members receive priority for fresh-bait orders when they call ahead and can collect the barrier key from the shop. This makes the shop a useful planning stop as well as a place to buy bait. You can compare fresh and frozen options, collect any required tackle and look at current fishing information during the same visit.

Frequently asked questions

Which bait should we choose for sea fishing?
